A new ventriloquist team and their puppets , Pope & Prez, take Las Vegas by storm. Hailed as the funniest pair of puppets since the Fawn & Ollie show of the '80s, they pack in crowds everywhere.

Ender, if you don't want to approve this because you feel it won't attract any attention, then I'm ok with that.

I thought about nixing it on the basis of it simply opening a topic that is essentially irresolvable. Pretty much every media outlet has some form of bias. But, what the hell....

That said, I would obviously disagree very strongly that FoxNews is fair or balanced; where they stray into their own bias, they don't admit it, as I've seen for example, Maddow on MSNBC do. I'd also point out that the Center for Media and Public Affairs, as cited in the article, was founded by a guy who is a FoxNews contributor.

Bill O'Reilly's show is a news commentary, it's all about opinion. Fox's regular news is very balanced, as was recently proven.

"I'd also point out that the Center for Media and Public Affairs, as cited in the article, was founded by a guy who is a FoxNews contributor."

    So?

To quote somebody else "Fox is without question the closest network to the political center, but in a left wing business, a centrist looks right wing."

That's why I was hesitant about posting this one. Even if we were to settle the question of overt bias --and I doubt we ever would-- there's still the subtler forms, such as the timing, ordering, and presentation of news pieces, as well as the selection of pictures/video used or soundbites selected.

I'd say I like MSNBC, but honestly, Olbermann's wearing on me with his Murrow-on-meth schtick. Maddow I like, because she goes out of her way to highlight her own biases. She's just one step away, though, that of "believing her own bullshit", from becoming the left's Rush Limbaugh.

All that said, I get 99% of my news from the 'net, so I'm an outlier in terms of quantifying the impact of media bias. Honestly, it concerns me when anyone takes the MSM at 100% face value, whether it be left or right. That's why FoxNews scares the hell out of me.

You might notice I'm omitting CNN; that's no accident...they've gotten quite irrelevant, and their bias is so brazenly left-corporatist that I'm not very worried about them. Leftists that are also pro-corporatist are a definite minority.

    So?'

That kinda undermines the "neutral third party" concept is why.

Anyone want to speculate on why journalism as a singular industry has a left wing bias?

    Well now, to quote wikipedia:

"major media outlets regularly carry stories based on the CMPA's studies, and the organization was described by the Los Angeles Times' Tom Rosenstiel as "non-partisan" in an interview in the D.C.-based City Paper (2/30/90). USA Today (6/28/91) also described Lichter's methodology as "non-partisan," and Newsday (3/4/92) characterized his research as "non-ideological."

So, just because the guy sent (past tense) a few stories to fox news doesn't mean jack.
