I knew it! Back in college I had a roommate once that pulled all nighters at least every couple of weeks. Then when I started dating my future wife she did the same thing. I said "F@ck that!" and went to bed. I need at least 8 hours or I'm a mess.
“...students who have never pulled an all-nighter have average GPAs of 3.2, compared to 2.95 for those who have.”
I'll admit, I've never worn the title of Honor Student. My motto has always been "C's Get Degrees" and I'm not sacrificing my quality of life to be graded by someone. To me there is two grades, pass and fail.
School is bullshit... but necessary.
It isn't controlledi n any what whatsoever. Let's face it, people who leave it until the last minute are very different peopel than those who have no life do their work and are ucked up by 10.30 every evening. So of course the more prepared ones are goign to do better. We don't need a study to tell us working diligently and not drinking will make you do better.
Basically the prof. has completely missed the point, its not if those who sleep do better, it is given you have left it late, are you better off studying then sleeping, or cramming until late. The only way to find out which strategy is best is a randomised controlled trial. That way peopel get allocated to one of two groups before an exam, and then we see which strategy works best - cram or sleep. Problem is how do you arrange that, and fund it!
