Whatever you do, don't listen to gaming nerds. It's like arguing Ford vs Chevy with a redneck- they have a near religious loyalty to their favorite and will pointlessy argue which is better. Usually with well developed debate like "psp3 rulz n00b" or "psp3 sux, lol".

I've been trying to get ahold of a Wii. I'll probably have one here in a week. Here's my two cents on each one.

PS3: Cheapest Blu-Ray player you can buy right now. Power machine that is really more of a media center/game console. It handles pictures beautifully with a sort of scattered 3 x 5's on the floor interface. The only problem is that the launch titles are kinda "meh" and it is really expensive for a gaming console. I'm waiting until they get better games out for it and it becomes more readily available.

Xbox 360: Has been out for a good year now, has great graphics, solid games list, and Gears of War. Thats the huge seller right now. Amazing game. :) With the added HD DVD player, you can watch HD DVDs also. Xbox Live is well made and worth the money, in my opinion. Not to mention they just released the Xbox 360 wireless receiver for the PC today. It'll allow you to use any Xbox 360 controller with any Direct X 10 game. Pretty slick.

Wii: The underdog as far as graphics go, but by sheer innovation and fun... it's great. It has the virtual console so you can buy and download tons of classic nintendo console games. It's a great party system and really is intended to be addicting and active. Not to mention it's small size and small price tag. A lot of good launch titles, also.

So to sum things up. I wouldn't get the PS3 yet until it's readily available and some quality games come out. Get the Wii if you can. It's cheap and you'll definitely enjoy it. And since both of those are in short supply at the moment, you can always walk in a store and walk out with an Xbox 360 and have tons of fun, whether it be Gears of War, Rainbow Six, Oblivion, or even Viva Pinata.

Also, you'd want to have a HDTV for the Xbox 360 and the PS3 to get the full experience. The Wii only puts out 480p so it's not as bad on a standard television.

Sounds like the Wii is the best for family fun. Thanks Tek, exactly what I was looking for.

I just played with someones Wii (har har) just a few minutes ago. The graphics look like shit but its kinda cool how the Wii responds to all your movements once you set up the sensor. It was released in Australia yesterday and the only game this guy had was Wii Sports which was not bad but it got boring real fast. I dunno, I guess I'm just too lazy to really get into Wii a lot. I'd rather sit at my PC (which, by the way, kicks all these consoles ass) and play graphic intensive, deep, non physical games :)

If Wii came out with a porn theme, I suggest not using another's controller, unless, of course you're into that type thing.

I'd rather have a Wii, but since I haven't used either, I really can't say which is better...

I think I'll have to freeze myself for a few months until I can get one...
