You don't suppose those artists that get paid to do thier "art" get to live for free do they? I mean after all, If all the art should be free then living as an artist should be easy because then they have everything paid for due to all that money NOT coming in.
Granted some of these "artist" assholes actually get overpaid for what they do.
    Or don't do.

My belief is that in the long run this helps the artists.

The artists (movie, music) are getting totally screwed by the man. The really don't see any of the money. Why should we pay the suits when the artists deserve the cash? I say, screw the system and once we bring it down, the artists can rebuild.

Continue to download music and movies my friends. Ever song tears out a brick... every movie takes out a wall.

You do the math... the company that makes the plastic disc that music is pressed on to CD makes more than the artists. The fat cats at the record and movie companies have enough money.

I think I've made my point.

Keep downloading free and legal! [link]

Ignoring the fact that lots of movies suck today, do you really want to see hollywood go completely bankrupt? Do you really think the solution is to steal their property until they die, then rebuild?

    Let's assume it happens.

What will it be like once they rebuild? Not much different than what they have now.

They are Nazis for having people arrested who were breaking the law and illegally duplicating thier movies?

HolyJuan, how can you support such illegal activity?

It's not really illegal more than it is unethical.

It used to be I could male a copy of a tape or cope a record to tape and no one had a problem with that. If there was an issue they should have made a fuss back in 1977 when I was dubbing my buddies ABBA tape.

In my mind, downloading a song off the internet is the same as buying a copy of a movie. I mean, those copies are pretty crappy, right? Shaky camera work, crappy audio, people standing up in front of the camera during the movie... its the same as when we were dubbing tapes. The industry shouldn't give a crap.

I don't see how something that is so good for consumers can be bad for the record and movie companies.

That is lunacy. First off, the distribution of wealth in our country is maddening!!!! There are many, many noble professions that are underpaid and deserving of much more than they will ever receive in financial renumeration. That being said, that does not justify stealing money that rightfully belongs to these people.

These songs and movies are the intellectual property of the people who wrote, directed, financed, produced, and starred in these movies, songs, whatever. Why should their blood, sweat, and tears be stolen simply because they are paid an insane amount of money for their work?

I don't think ANYONE that is in favor of pirating movies and songs would be in favor of someone stealing their work or money out of their paycheck.

The Fair Use rule (sony betamax case) makes it legal to copy shows for your own personal use, that's why Tivo is legal.

SELLING what you've copied and keeping the profit is NOT legal.

    That's the difference.

By my own logical reasoning, I see that buying pirated copies of movies is wrong. However, my opinion is not reinforced by the MPAA's anti-piracy campaign at all. If copy-sharing is so wrong, shouldnt there be a bunch of real reasons its wrong that they could explain in their ads? They shouldnt need to fabricate some bullshitty reasons to manipulate my opinion with if they are so on the side of right. My big beef is with that ad in the theaters with the set painter artist crying about how piracy doesn't hurt the big studios, it hurts the little guys like him. Puh-leeze. Since when are tech guys paid royalties for the movies they work on? Surely the MPAA could make a more convincing case for piracy being wrong. I dont even download movies and this puts me on the side of the downloaders.
