Death by wine enema

I've never heard of this, which is probably a good thing. Apparently this Texas boozehound couldn't physically drink his dinner anymore - a condition most likely caused by his alcoholism. So instead he has the Mrs. send it in the back door ... skyrocketing his BA to .47. [link]

"Michael Warner, a 58-year-old machine shop owner, had a long history of alcoholism, but couldn't ingest alcohol because of medical problems with his throat, said Lake Jackson Police detective Robert Turner. The wine enema was a way he could become intoxicated without drinking alcohol, Turner said."

"Turner said police think she gave him at least two large bottles of sherry, which is stronger than wine, in the enema on May 21. 'We're not talking about little bottles here," Turner said, "These were at least 1.5 liter bottles.'"

I remember watching a documentary about the Mayas that said that they would ingest alcohol through enemas as part of religious ceremonies. They were not sure why they did this...
One theory was that alcohol gets absorbed faster into the bloodstream and produce more intense effects. Another theory was that the Mayas would give alcohol enemas to drinkers who were so drunk they were vomiting. I guess they didn't have a concept of alcohol poisoning .
And your history book says that europeans brought alcohol to America. Don't believe everything you read.

I would never stoop so low to allow someone to give me a sherry enema. I prefer bourbon enemas.
