Fuck them! Stay in your own damn country.

It's a tough gap to bridge and it seems only to be getting wider with Bush saying he well only embrace the Democrats if they embrace his ideas(which in fairness seemed to be shared by the rest of the country). But if they do come out here they can take Quebec. No one likes Quebec(well not the people anyways).

    Thia amuses me greatly.

I think Canada's about to find out why socialized health care can work in Canada, but will never work in America. The problem is one of scale, and Canada's relatively friendly immigration laws are going to cause that problem to increase.

I can't understand people who would move just to get away from a government they didn't vote for. It's kind of like a baby whining when it doesn't get its way. If conservatives thought this way, then there would've been Civil War during the Clinton years. Tough shit. Deal with it. Mid term elections are only two years away. There's your chance, Dems.

I looked into immigrating to Canada recently....even though I'm quite conservative and would find the Canadian government a constant irritation. I just like the idea of living in a wildly underpopulated country. :)

Any foobies looking to immigrate should be aware that Canadian immigration regulations, while friendly, are not open-ended; you'll need to have some skills, education, and particularly bilingual english-french fluency in order to successfully apply.

Oh yeah....they require you to prove you won't be a drain on Canada's welfare system by having enough cash-in-hand to last quite awhile.

It does seem that Palestinians with terrorist ties have an easier time getting asylum in Canada than Americans with skills.....but that's a flamewar for another day. :)

As for mending our wounds....sadly I don't see it happening. Each side is far too convinced of the other side's total wrongness. For a textbook lesson, just grok any political flamewar thread that Squee's posted in. Neither side will admit any fact that doesn't support their thesis......

But that's just my opinion, I may be wrong, your results may vary, offer void in Puerto Rico, no warranty implied or offered.

For those that think moving away to Canada will solve thier problems, grow up. Stop whining and get over it.
As for mending our wounds, This is how it is: The U.S. (and the rest of the free world) was seriously wounded on september 11, 2001. And for a bunch of freedom loving fellow americans to turn pussy and run away to canada to hide is fucking retarded. One thing that makes america great is the people's ability to get over tradgedy, accept dissapointment from time to time and move forward.
And for a bunch of quitters to throw thier hands up and run away, well then, You are sending a message to the terrorist organizationa that they are winning.

Your anger, hostility and fear has you referring to fellow Americans as "fucking retarded" for having thoughts of leaving your fine country, not because of terrorists, but rather because they fear where your society is heading. I hate to say it, but your response suggests the terrorists ARE winning. If you stop swinging your swords for a moment and have a look around the sand-box, maybe you'll see what the rest of the world already sees... :(

Just what does the rest of the world see?
More importantly what do I care what the rest of the world thinks?
As far as I'm concerned, If a foriegn nation is responsible or had conspired in attacking us, then they should pay the price. If that means the total annihilation of thier government and way of life then so be it.
    Fuck the fucking fuckers.
And if "the rest of the world" has a problem with this then they can all just kiss my ass.
The United States is the last superpower. King shit on turd island, if you will. All these little third world backwards ass countries are jealous of us and other first world, "A-list", freedom loving nations.
    Go to hell, commie bastard.

It's more than just being upset that the guy I voted for didn't win, it's about being displeased with where I am. If I don't like I leave, what is it to you? All you seem to be doing is complaining about people leaving the US...

Why do you care what I do? Is it so bad that I leave?

I think you said it best when you said in mock, "I'm going to leave the U.S. because I like to run away from my problems." in the true spirit of patriotism you proclaimed the US a problem.

That's exactly the kind of attidude that gets Americans a bad reputation. Just because we think we're a more powerful nation doesn't give us the right to go around ranting and raving expecting things to be done our way all the time. You're sounding just like every other Cry Baby Boomer, selfish Ameribrat.

Sometimes you have to see the grand scheme of things and think of other nations too. It's called foreign policy.

OK, let's say you hate Bush and want to move to Canada for a specific political motive. Let's look at the complaints:

    1) High unemployment in the US: Well, if the recent 5.5% unemployment rate here is just too much for you, try on Canada's 7.8% unemployment! Odds are if you're affected directly by the unemployment here you won't be able to immigrate anyways.

    2) Health Care - Again, odds are that if you're able to immigrate to Canada you already have private healthcare. Granted, Canada does have socialized health care, but it's far from free. Whether you pay your money to a health care business or the government in the form of taxes, you're still paying. Additionally, elective surgeries in Canada have far longer waits than they do here in the US.

    3) War with Iraq - Canada isn't participating, so... if that's your main issue, no problem. Allez-y. However, if your concern is the larger "War on Terror" Canada does have a force of around 500 troops in Afghanistan at the moment. Probably not a big concern, but as a future Canadian, you may want to be aware of that.

Other questions are best summed up in this citation from the CIA World Factbook:

Another long-term concern is the flow south to the US of professionals lured by higher pay, lower taxes, and the immense high-tech infrastructure. A key strength in the economy is the substantial trade surplus. Roughly 90% of the population lives within 160 kilometers of the US border.

The per-capita purchasing power parity in the US Is around $9,000/year more in the US, and we're Canada's biggest trade partner.

I'm not saying the Canadians are the worst people in the world, nor am I saying the US is better than Canada in every single respect. Just look at the facts.

Actually Canadian History is filled with instances of disgruntled Americans choosing to leave since they disagree with the form of government or social state. Examples include the loyalists of the 18th century, the slaves of the 19th century and the draft dodgers in the 60s. You could almost say Canada is an alternative for those wanting all the aspects of North American life without the political baggage of the United States.

My attitude is a kickass, motivating, driving force that allows me to hold myself at a level higher than those who choose to go through life blaming personal problems on others. I give 110 % everyday, at everything that I do.
As for the "Cry Baby Boomer, selfish Ameribrat" comment: I'll have you know that I ,periodically, worked years alongside the salvation army and the peacecorp building schools and affordable housing for the needy.
I just got sick of doing it because every time a project was finished the recipients would move in and literally destroy the project.

proclaimed the U.S. a problem. Only those that can't hack it here think that the U.S. is a problem.
From the sounds of it, it looks like you just can't hack it here. If you want to run away then all I can say is- I hope you find your happiness. While you're at it why don't you go move to Falluja! From what I see in the news they may need help re-populating the place after the Marines get through with it.

Perhaps you should put 110% into everything you think and say too. And when your "kicking ass", taking a look to make sure it's the right ass your kicking would go a long way. Your response simply reinforces the 1st post... sad thing is you don't seem to even realize it.

Remember the biggest, toughest kid in kindergarten who always picked on everyone else and had no friends? He didn't care what anyone else thought either. Remember what happened to him in high school?

Hopefully your rage will subside sooner, rather than later, because like it or not, you'll never be able to wipe the face of the earth clean of people who don't see things your way, in fact, the more you spout your bullshit hatred, the more you sound like your enemy, and after all the fighting, you'll still need to share a planet with them...

Assume you'll be calling me a liberal commie bastard terrorist or something now... spew away...

I'd sponsor you if it wasn't for that "Most of the world's population is wrong" comment in the "One Nation, Under God" post... you sound much better suited for the US ;)

Unless you promise to go to Alberta, where we stockpile such people ;)

"Perhaps you should put 110% into everything you think and say too. And when your "kicking ass", taking a look to make sure it's the right ass your kicking would go a long way."- I stated that my attitude was a kickass attitude. I never said that I kick asses all the time.

"Remember the biggest, toughest kid in kindergarten who always picked on everyone else and had no friends? He didn't care what anyone else thought either. Remember what happened to him in high school?"
I was always the quiet kid in school. I had my circle of friends and never looked for trouble. Then one day the school bully pushed me too far and I made a mop out of him. When I joined the Navy my attitude was forged into a motivating hammer of steel. I was the guy leading the pack during runs and setting the pace with a driving cadence. When someone fell back or didn't want to continue I would fall back to help them out.

It's easy for someone to mistake responsibility and a take charge attitude with rage. Especially if the person doing the assuming has horrible reading comprehension skills.

Don't worry about assuming that I will call you "a liberal commie bastard terrorist or something "
    - Assumption is the mother of all fuck-ups.

    MW,

Sorry... I assumed rage versus take charge attitude after you wrote:

"If that means the total annihilation of their government and way of life then so be it. Fuck the fucking fuckers."
    -and-
"All these little third world backwards ass countries are jealous of us and other first world, "A-list", freedom loving nations. Go to hell, commie bastard."

To help those of us with "horrible reading comprehension skills", it would be helpful if you wrote in a more comprehensible manner in future. Thank you.

Regarding my "biggest, toughest kid" comment, I was using a metaphor to refer to US foreign policy, as opposed to you personally. Regardless, thank you for sharing some of your memories as these do explain a few things.

On a final note, regarding assumption being the mother of all fuck-ups... thank you for this advice as well, and for making me laugh so hard coming from you.

    Have a nice day. ;)
