Well this is old news, but it involves people I know...friends of mine. [
link] My friend Dave lent out his brand new, and very expensive, lamborgini to some other friends of mine. The result was a crash that, with only a miracle, could the passengers have survived. I heard the story but never realized how bad it was until I read the report.
BTW there is no way they were going only 100mph. 420 feet worth of skid marks is much further than that, especially with a high-end sports car. "The car left 422 feet of tire marks before striking a curb, sending it onto a sidewalk. It then plowed through 40 feet of brick wall before hitting a fire hydrant, a street pole, a fence and a dog, which was killed. The car continued for another 270 feet before it stopped, then burst into flames."
I have, in my life, never heard of such an accident. This being with 4 years working for the police.
And sorry, but your friend is an IDIOT for leaving the keys within reach of young french tourists! I don't even think insurance will cover the replacement of the car because the registered owner wasn't driving it. And even if they did, they would charge one hell of a premium.
