This is hardly an example of a need for socialized medicine. Given the excruciating waiting lists for major surgery in countries with socialized medicine, she likely would have had to wait almost as long- or perhaps longer- for her surgery.
Of course, if she got herself a JOB, she'd not be in this mess...
If you don't like socialized health care that's okay, but lots of people do. I live in Canada and while there is some problems with the system for the most part it is highly valued. Most people here love socialized healthcare. You really don't have much of a right to complain about long waiting lines because this doesn't affect you in the least, how often do you hear of the plus sides of socialized healthcare? So many people around me right now are still here because of it. To support privatized healthcare is to say that the lives of the rich are more important than those of the poor.
Just yesterday my teacher told me how when his triplets were born they had to go into intensive care which would have cost them tens of thousands of dollars. They couldn't possibly afford that and all three of his children would have died. The pro's of healthcare outway the con's. Before you try to put down something that doesn't even affect you talk to the people who it does affect. Come to Canada and just ask anyone and you will see that socialized healthcare is not something the majority of us are willing to give up.
If somebody's extremely affluent and their not willing to wait they can go down to the U.S. and not have to wait. It's as simple as that.
Down here in Florida, all we hear are the negatives. The retires that come here, claiming they are not getting correct healthcare since they are no longer part of the workforce. Most of them come to the states just to get the healthcare they need, since they cannot recieve it in Canada. But then again, they are no longer part of the workforce, so they get overlooked for the betterment of the masses... But thats just what we hear, maybe they are just bitter and talking out their ass.
"They couldn't possibly afford that and all three of his children would have died. "
Funny in privatized healthcare nae, all healthcare the doctors are obligated to do what is necessary to save those lives ragardless of the cost. He would have just been stuck with a huge bill. That or snuffing the kids before they got the care they needed.
