Growing Internet access in places like Iran

The BBC [link] has a story regarding the increasing availability of the Internet in Iran. Is this good, bad, or ugly?

I think this will bring more "western" beliefs to previously, hard to access, parts of the world but there is obviously the potential for their beliefs to spread to the western world. I was wondering how foobies think. Will beliefs regarding political/religious/human rights issues become more "pro-western" or "anti-western" as people in countries like Iran have more access to the Internet?

I know I'm becoming an idealist, but I think everyone should have access to the internet and I think that because the internet is a wonderful medium for just about everything it opens up Iran to a literal world of new experience. And I'll be the first to point the Iranian 14 year olds to the right porn sites, homestarrunner.com, and eventually Kung Foo.
