The Boondock Saints

"The Boondock Saints" is about two brothers that, when forced, take the law into their own hands, all the while, being persued by the authorities.
This is an "old" movie, about 1999, but since I did not see a kungfoo.com review coupled with the fact that the sequel, "The Boondock Saints: All Saints Day," is due out this year, I thought some of you might be interested.
The Boondock Saints is the story of two religious, Irish brothers (Sean Patrick Flanery, and Norman Reedus) living in South Boston that find themselves to be the victims of the same crimes that the rest of the population of Boston suffers from. When push comes to shove, the brothers take the law into their own hands but the "law" that they answer to is not determined by any earthbound court. The people of Boston as well as the authorities (Willem Dafoe) do not directly object to their actions but they are, technically, law breakers and therefore, must be pursued. Through a set of unusual circumstances, the brothers find increasingly challenging criminal conquests and deal with these criminal as they believe they should be dealt with while the police and FBI, comically at times, chase close on their heels. This movie often has an "action movie" feel without being cheesy. Buried in the main plot of vigilantism, there is a cool subplot with a twist, which isn't fully realized until close to the end of the film. This is one of those films that, while you know what the characters are doing is technically wrong; the circumstances practically make you believe that what they are doing is righteous.
This movie was briefly in the theaters, but very few people saw it. Since then, it has gained quite a cult following. The growing size of this following prompted writer/director Troy Duffy to follow it up with a sequel, "The Boondock Saints: All Saints Day," due out sometime this year (2004).
