leave it to fox to demonize labor by reporting an obsure news story while ignoring several important labor issures. such as the NAFTA and GATT teaties. i like how they portray all unions as lazy while hold the corprate overlords in high esteem. we can thanks rupert murdoch for that point of view

I don't hold the corporationsi n higher regard but...

So far all the labor union experiences I've had, have been negative. The workers ARE lazy and overpaid.

Perhaps there are a couple out there who go against the norm but it seems laziness is pretty standard when unions are involved.

Reporting this story is "demonizing" unions??? The reason that Fox has become the most popular cable news station is that they report stories like this that would otherwise be censored by CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS and The New York Times.

As someone who is stuck working in a union shop (CWA) and whose former job was in a Teamster shop, I'll tell you right now that unions DO breed laziness. Work ethic, efficiency, competence mean NOTHING in a union shop- the only thing that matters is seniority. That said, I see nothing in this article "demonizing" labor or portraying them as lazy (Although I have no problem doing so)

What really burns me is that short of getting a different job (something I'm trying to do), I've no real choice on paying union dues. I wish MN was a "right to work" state where you actually have a choice... but it won't happen.

NAFTA and GATT were covered by the media... 10 years ago when they were actually news. Old news now, and the predictions by the unions of employers making mass migrations to Mexico just hasn't happened.

Next time you drive by a road construction site, count the union members you see, and count how many are actually working- usually it's 3 people standing around, 2 leaning on shovels, and another 3 watching the 1 person pretend to work.

The Mass migrations to mexico have happened my uncle and and family friend had to move because power planet were shutdown and moved. this was caused by the two treaties.
fox isnt this great network that exposes stories we wouldnt hear every big station does the same thing they are doing demonizing people's effort for a better life. in this case its are chosing to run a story that is negative toward unions add up all the stories they run about unions in a year which side wins positive stories or negative? hmmm i wonder and is it just by chance that no labor history is taught in schools. 20's 30's 50's that a huge part of america history.
you experiance have been negative however for my family they have been incredable helpful for making ends meat.
My grandfather was a printer (a skill that has been replaced by machines as of late) he always said to my father that if it wasnt for the unions he would not have been able to support us. same with my grandmother she was a nurse.
and my other grandmother was born in italy. she always had the view that everyone has the right to work and make a liveable wage doing it. if someone isnt working that i thought that was grounds to expell them from the union.
the facts are that it differs from union to union. and it isnt right to make a vast general statment about people in uinons because from my expedriances they are honest people wanting better pay for the work they do.

"This isn't the first time the union has demanded to be paid for a job it didn't do. Inmates from a work-release program helped spruce up a county park for free, but the county said it paid the union about $1,000 dollars when it complained that the prisoners were stealing union jobs."
whoohoo slave labor is back uh i mean chain gangs

Imagine how much more money you would have to make ends meet if you were NOT paying those union dues.

Here's a hint: Work hard, give your employer 100% and more and you'll always have a great job. This is how you make ends meet. Stop being lazy and expect an employer to pay you if you aren't worth even minimum wage.

If you want better pay ask for a raise. If you deserve it and I mean TRULY deserve it then you'll get it. IF you don't you can either work harder or find another job.

The slave labor comment is absurd. Do you think it is right for prisoners to have free room and board, sponging off the tax payers? Hell, for the work they do, they get to take some of that money with them when the leave.

    Asshat.

    Hey Assonymous,

Did you ever stop and think that the reason businesses are leaving the US for other countries in the first place is because they cannot afford to pay the unions the money they want? Lets think here, pay a union working in the US $30/hr plus full benefits to work exactly 40 hours and then go home or pay someone in Mexico who really needs the job $10/hr to work and they will put in overtime and work hard because they appreciate earning their money?

By the way, you want to know where your union fees go? My cousin is a lead man for a construction company (non-union) and every day he has to go yell at union workers whose job is going to his work sites and talk to his employees to try to get them to do less work making my cousin look bad! Guess who pays these people? Thats right, your union fees!

As for educating about labor laws, I can say where I went to school, we were taught a lot about labor laws. This is where we learned about how unions came to be. And I'll even admit, they were needed in the early 1900's because employers were exploiting workers, but I also learned that now we have numerous laws in effect to protect all workers, so there is little need to belong to a "club" that tries to get more and more for less and less.

My rant here is done, please feel free to tear it apart!

If lazy people were expelled from the unions, there'd be hardly anyone left.

The reason people don't buy as many American cars anymore is because they're tired of having them fall apart because the lazy, overpaid union members who assembled it were too drunk to do their jobs properly.

If your grandfather couldn't support his family without being in a union, I'm guessing he was lazy and incompetent too- otherwise he wouldn't have had to rely on the legalized extortion racket that modern unions depend on.

Those who can, do. Those who can't... spend their lives working union.

    Go Michigan!

Unions suck. Boeing employees are conatantly on strike because they have to pay 25 cents for a cup of coffee when they are making $35/her or more plus the other benefits. I mean really... 25 cents!

They wonder why the company is laying folks off and moving out of Washington? They are also bitching and moaning about it rather than trying to keep their jobs here by offering to renegotiate their contracts and terms of service. They feel they have the right to complain about anything and everything if they don't get their way.

Truth about unions... they are more likely to lay people off than a non-union employer. The reason is because there is more cost involved keeping the little pricks happy and lazy that they can't afford to keep them all year. Hence lay-offs. Sure they get hired back eventually but they bitch about that too.

The sad thing is, I'd be happy to work there making half what they make and put in standard overtime if asked. They won't hire me because the union won't let them (I won't join a union.)

The Lazy B needs a major overhaul as do most all union based companies.

Unions suck the sac of a goat in rutt.

Unions suck....no vacation pay, no sick day pay, no holiday pay, etc.

Unions usually provide for that and more than standard companies unless you work for M$.

To top it all off you get to be lazy and earn more than more of the hard working guys out there.

Unions negotiate for beenfits which include healthcare, paid time off, paid sick leave, paid holidays etc.

Yes they suck but not for the reasons you state.

Unions are out of control.... My company joined the IBEW and went on a downward spiral. We joined on the promise that being union would help us to get more union contracts as union companies were obligated to only sub work to other union companies. When this did not happen, our shop of 12 was told that we would have to deal with the fact that work was being sub contract to non union companies by our own 'union Brothers". You see these brothers were shops of 300 and had more dues power. When our company had a chance to offer a sub-contract we awarded one as a test to a non-union subcontractor. The result, we were tied up in court, lost our contract, funds were frozen, and company went under. Unions are bullshit and there contracts mean nothing unless you are on the other end.
    Nothing but modern day extortionist.
