Dusty Baker refuses to apologize for his remarks yesterday concerning his belief that black and Latino players handle the heat better than white players. [
link] Baker says he meant what he said and and he's "not going to take it back". He believes that darker skin is "more conducive to heat than it is to the lighter-skinned people. I don't see brothers running around burnt."
I'm white and I have no problem with what he said, but I'm not sure his argument holds water. I mean.... if you wear a black t-shirt out in the sun and heat it get's real hot, but if you wear a white t-shirt you stay much cooler. Isn't that elementary science? So it would stand to reason that white skin would keep you cooler provided you wear sunscreen to keep from getting burnt up. I'm just looking at it from a scientific point of view.
