Better bring a cheat sheet
Ok, unless you REALLY liked the first film and remembered verbatim every line from it, this was a disappointment to say the least. This script would have made a great comic book (at least a seven issue mini-series!) To their credit they were extremely faithful in character development (at least the principal characters) Too many subplots and too little attention paid to each one. At least with a comic you can flip back a page and refer, this movie almost requires a cheat sheet to recall the various details that actually make it intresting.
In the area of character development, alot of attention was paid to wolverine (again) yet in a scattered way that left you wondering why bring it up if you are not going to focus on it for any duration. The theme was a broad one, I wont reveal it but in my view they lose the concept in all the jumpcuts and meanwhiles. I am a comics fan, and knew everything that was going on and I was still bored out of my mind. I feel the importance and relevance for that matter of what was going on was mired in all the details. I could go on and on about it but let's just run the numbers...
action...7 lots of cool stuff...too spread out and unimportant
direction...5 great effects, good use of character, but poor execution
acting...8 the cast really is believable its a shame they were put in a blender and served cold in this one!
dialogue...6 comic fans will appreciate the accuracy but the story is so thin!
overall...6.5 on a ten scale, it could have been worse
bottom line: If they had narrowed the focus somewhat, it could have been better than the original.
till next time...
sentinels rule!
