Morpheus slowed down my comp, I can never connect to any hosts on Limewire, and when I tried to upgrade to a newer version of bearshare, something weird happened and it didn't download completely? I dunno. I haven't tried to dwl it again. I miss Napster.

    To Crazydiamond:
The problems with Limewire are associated with its releases. Get the latest (1.7) release, which includes new base server addresses, and you should be OK. I had the same problem until a friend tipped me to the problem.

Great article my man. I've used all of these except Morpheus. I like audiogalaxy the best. Out of all the gnutella clients I like Limewire the best cause it's not ad-ware. Aimster just seemed like bloat-ware, I'm computer savvy and couldn't even get it to work right.

Morpheus was driving me nuts but the new KaZaA is the best, very stable program very good for finding the latest movies and then shutting the program down because downloading pirate movies is illegal dont you know

I really should do an update to this article. Audiogalaxy had maintained its Best in Show ranking until the bitter end; but now that it's toast, I haven't found any of the also-rans out there to be comparable in quality.

I removed Morpheus when all the spyware stories started leaking out; and I use Kazaa Lite [link] (no spyware) now, but selection is a fraction of what it was under AG. As for WinMX, after trying to find a network connection for 45 minutes, I closed the stupid thing down and went grumbling back to Kazaa. There has got to be something better than this

KaZaA LITE is what I use. Uses the same stuff as Morpheus, but without anyspyware. So its pretty much like Morpheus. Get it! Do a search from it cause I don't know if the site is ever up anymore. [link]

kazaa is pretty much the king now. they nuked Morpheus and everything else is getting sued to hell. I use Kazaa Lite, no spyware. Just look at the user numbers: something close to 2 million people on Kazaa or something like that. Insane.

Hi!! I would like to know how to get rid of the BearShare...I dont like it too well, because it seems to be messing my computer up!! :)

Assuming you're on windows go to:

    Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs

Choose Bearshare in the list and then press uninstall.

Then try out Shareaza [link] because it doesn't have any spyware or adware in it.

Why go to Kazaa? and all those junk programs...

Lol why dont you guys try some good ftp from some friends or....some IRC downloads?....i dont use any of those junk programs...i get everything like that, way a lot better:)
of course this is not for everyone because not all the people know how to find what they look for...so my advice is....dig the web a bit more...and the IRC too....Mirc is not only good for chattin;)

i can't wait for this bad boy to be tweaked. as an opensource encrypted file sharing tool, it has a lot of potential. AOL yanked it off Nullsoft's site less than 24 hours after it was posted. [link]

Forgot about Bittorrent, it supports that too. And it can be used as a regular download manager as well.

SoulSeek! [link] You can download full albums pretty easily with this thing so probably better to have a fast connection.

Soulseek is pretty cool since you can have a buddy list. It's like the old Napster to me.

That's exactly what I said after a few minutes of using it. Apart from the fact that you could find anything on Napster.

I use overnet (www.overnet.com). I got DL by 800kb/s but there aren't so many files. But still the fastest DL I ever had on my ADSL. If you don't share, or share to slow, the system won't let you DL. So it is compare to others with a lot of Leechers much better. Try it out. I got also WinMX together with NapMX ([link]) for way more files because it connects to more networks, and Antileech ([link])to get rid of leechers.

You might be interested to know that Bearshare adds to really nasty pieces of software to your system - Weathercast and Whenusave. These are two of the shittiest pieces of spy/adware around. I searched my entire computer for these bitches and Lavasoft adaware and Spybot sd found 14 new entries in the registry etc. After you remove Bearshare, search for any files with the name Bearshare in and erase them. Use something like System Mechanics' Incinerator or Spybot sds' File Shredder.
