The Postal Service has decided not to take part in a government program touted as a tip service for authorities concerned with terrorism. [link] The TIPS program wants local cable or gas or electrical technicians, and others, to report suspicious activities to the feds. I for one am glad that the parcels that I receive from companies that assure me that my order “will arrive in an unmarked brown package” will not be reported to the authorities. Is it just me or didn’t George Orwell write a really scary book about this sort of thing?
